Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle Massage Therapy technique that uses light, rhythmic, and precise movements applied to the body. Unlike many traditional Massage Therapy techniques, MLD uses very light pressure and a slower, more specific style of movement. The techniques are adapted to the individual and may be used as a focused treatment or incorporated into a broader Massage Therapy session, depending on the patient’s needs and goals. Your RMT will assess your needs and determine which techniques are appropriate as part of your treatment. Lymphatic drainage techniques are included within the broader skill set of Massage Therapy education; however, individual RMTs may choose whether or not to incorporate them into their practice. Some RMTs pursue additional education and specialized training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage to further develop their knowledge and skills in this area. At Therapy Lounge, MLD is offered by RMTs who have chosen to incorporate lymphatic drainage into their practice, including RMTs with additional training in this area. During your treatment, your RMT will explain what to expect, adjust the techniques based on your comfort and response, and work with you to develop an approach that is appropriate for your individual needs and preferences.
