Acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest continuous medical systems, with recorded history dating as far back as 2000 years. TCM is based on the Daoist belief that everything in the universe is interconnected. Daoism views the mind and body as entities that work closely together to form one system. Its belief is that meridians in the body function cohesively to keep the body in good working order. TCM emphasizes the treatment of the root of disease rather than on existing symptoms alone, which makes it a truly holistic medicine. The fundamental goal is to restore the body’s function when it has been affected.
One of the most common treatment modalities in TCM is Acupuncture. It involves the insertion of fine, disposable, sterile needles into the skin at specific points. Acupuncture helps to activate the meridians, which are full of energy called Qi (pronounced: “Chi”). When the body is functioning well, this flow of Qi is smooth and uninterrupted. Disease or disharmonies occurs when there is a disruption in this movement. Acupuncture works to strengthen both the physical and emotional aspects of the body.
