Homemade Almond Milk
I love almond milk. But you know what I love more? Homemade almond milk.
Sure you can go to your local health food store and pick up a carton. I agree that it’s super convenient and I usually do have an emergency carton of almond milk in my fridge. But once you make your own, the store bought kind just doesn’t compare. Your tastebuds will fall in love with the sweet nutty creaminess of this milk and it’s pretty easy to make. You’ll need a nut milk bag which you can buy at most health food stores or on-line at Upaya Naturals.
What you’ll need:
1 cup raw almonds, soaked in water for 4 hours
8 cups of water
4-6 pitted soft dates or 1 tsp vanilla extract or scrapping of vanilla pod
Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
To make the milk:
The almond milk will stay fresh for 7 days if stored in a sealed jar in the refrigerator. Add it to smoothies, granola, muesli, coffee, tea or simply have it on it’s own!
Makes approx. 1L
Tip: I keep the almond pulp and use it as a facial scrub and in various recipes.
