Fall Recipe: Warm Golden Almond Milk
By Melissa Macchione, RHN
The star ingredient in this recipe is **turmeric**. Turmeric contains **curcumin**, a powerful polyphenol with **over 600 potential health benefits**, including **antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties**.
Adding **black pepper** to turmeric enhances **curcumin’s bioavailability** by **up to 2,000%**, thanks to **piperine**, a compound in black pepper that increases absorption.
I find that enjoying a cup of this warm, golden milk before bedtime helps with **digestion** and feels incredibly **calming and grounding**.
What You’ll Need:
- 1 tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp ground cardamom
- ½ tsp ground cloves
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp sweetener (raw honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar)
- 2 cups almond milk (Get my Homemade Almond Milk recipe)
What to Do:
- Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Warm almond milk on the stovetop at a **very low temperature** for 2 minutes.
- Add the dry ingredient mix to the almond milk and heat to your desired temperature (**do not allow it to boil**).
- Pour into your favorite mug and stir in the sweetener.
Makes 2 cups.
