Healing through warmth of moxibustion
Moxibustion is an ancient traditional Chinese medicine treatment with a 2000 year history in China and is commonly used in conjuction with Acupuncture treatments. The name for Acupuncture in Chinese (zhen jiu) literally means “needle moxa”. Moxa (Artemisia argyi Folium) is typically used during treatment because the penetrating heat from the burning of the herb helps to stimulate an acupuncture point. The treatment has a ‘warming’ effect, which helps to stimulate blood and qi flow to treat a wide range of pain conditions, tonify energy, and can boost the immune system.
Some common conditions that are treated with moxibustion in clinic are:
• digestive disorders
• joint pain (that is worse with cold/damp weather)
• male and female infertility
• menstrual cramps
• chronic fatigue
• sprains, strains
• turning breech presentations during pregnancy
